Our Maison is quintessentially generational. We like to grow this mindset by cutting and layering, from branches planted with great care and left to take root at their own pace. As if patiently passing a verdant baton.
Our story takes root with Aimé, a man as great in size as he was in his heart.
He was a skilful and passionate winemaker, and he had the audacity to create and market his own brand of Champagne in the 1930s.
A precious legacy passed on to new generations, comparable to a living garden
that never ceases to blossom.
His legacy continued with Michel, Jean-Marie's father, who taught him how to care for nature.
Michel worked to ensure the estate's continued existence alongside his wife Michèle, affectionately nicknamed 'Gamine': the Kid.
Out of his 27 parcels of vines, Jean-Marie has preserved some of his father Michel's massal selection dating from the 1950s. They are a token of the family's desire to multiply rather than uproot, and to recreate rather than cut down.
Now the young shoots of this beautiful lineage, the Massonnot children Camille, Valentin and Victor wish for this philosophy to live on.
Like his grandfather and father before him, Jean-Marie Massonnot is a daring winegrower who loves his land. He creates his wines by using the same skills, while incorporating modern winegrowing methods.
From tending to his vines to blending his wines in his own cellars, through to marketing, he conducts each stage with pride and commitment.
He is a member of Vignerons Indépendants, which shows is dedication and respect for tradition.
