Our family's general belief is that life should come first. This commitment is turned towards biodiversity, devotedly supporting agriculture and symbolised by the certification in organic farming of all our vineyards since 2021.
At our Maison, whether in the vineyards or in the cellars, we keep human intervention down to the minimum, but we guide nature to produce the best.
In our vineyards, patience and observation are behind our every gesture. Organic farming is a natural choice here, preserving the rich and lively soil where every living thing has its place.
Our estate is composed of around twenty parcels of land with exquisite names, forming a unique mosaic of 'micro-terroirs' which we lovingly preserve.
Caring for the vineyards relies on constant attention and hard work throughout the year. It is important to find the fragile balance between good strength and good health for the vines, without resorting to chemicals.
A controlled grass cover, meticulous disbudding, trellising in perfectly straight lines, braiding young vines, etc. It is a lot of work but it is the only way to obtain the reward we are waiting for.
In Jean-Marie's opinion, a happy vine is a vine that lasts and roduces good harvests every year.
We choose quality over quantity. We observe and taste the berries, then wait for the perfect balance between ripeness and acidity before we decide to harvest the fruit of a whole year of effort.
When the time comes, the go-ahead is given. In just a few days during harvest, the precious juice of our grapes is delicately extracted in our traditional press.
The vat room is the place where the secrets of the Massonnot family come to life. We like our vinification to suffer as little human intervention as possible, in the same way we grow the grapes. We like to respect nature's own pace. No added sugar, no excessive use of sulfites or filtering: let the nature of the wine
take its course.
Camille has always been appreciative of her father's work and is now learning how to discern and blend aromas by his side, as she will soon be entrusted with the noble task of shaping the cuvées of the Maison.
Patience is an integral part of our vision of wine.
In the secrecy of our cellars, our Champagnes begin their slow ageing process on lees, letting the wine, yeast and time interact and allowing each of our cuvées to express their unique identity.
Jean-Marie and Christel are very fond of rich aromatic complexity and go out
of their way to find it in their wine.
